Watch: Environmental Youth Speak Winners

Year 8 Success At Environmental Youth Speak competition 2017

Two of our Year 8 students represented Lagan College at the 2017 Environmental Youth Speak competition. The event took place in Lagan Valley Island hosted by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council.

The aim of the competition, organised by the Council’s Waste Management Section, is to encourage environmental awareness among young people by providing them with an opportunity to research and debate environmental issues.

Kirsten Beattie and Sophie Browne, students in Miss Smyth’s Year 8 English class, prepared a speech on the topic of ‘Don’t Bin It, Bring It!’ The speech was highly praised by the judging panel of council representatives, so much so that the girls went on to win the senior section of the competition for Lagan College!

Both girls were delighted to receive their £100 cash award and the school received £200 in cash also. Well done Sophie and Kirsten!
