French is offered from Year 8 to Year 14. At Key Stage 3, we aim to make the language learning real and accessible for all students with the emphasis on communication. We have high expectations for all our students.
The French course allows them to find out about French-speaking countries and cultures. Students work on the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing and develop their ability to work collaboratively or individually. They are encouraged to use ICT to improve their work, to practise vocabulary and grammar and to research a particular topic.
Educational trips are very important to our Department. We offer a language/ski trip to Switzerland and a trip to Nice for Year 9 and Year 10 students, both of which run biannually. Year 13 and 14 students are also offered the opportunity to participate in a Conference in Paris. We are currently investigating an educational trip to Paris in 2014 for Year 11.
