Moving Image Arts offers students a unique opportunity to develop and refine their skills as film-makers. It enables students to broaden their experience of audio-visual culture to inform, inspire and contextualise their own creative ideas.

Moving Image Arts is an ideal choice for students wishing to pursue a career in the creative industries, which value and promote independence, originality, creative enterprise and technical skill. The course develops creative and critical abilities in writing, directing, editing, producing and analysing films from a range of contexts and disciplines.

Key Stage 4

GCSE Moving Image Arts

Through studying Moving Image Arts students:

  • develop an understanding of film language in theory and practice
  • develop ideas through investigating and experimenting with film-making techniques and processes
  • develop the ability to manage resources and equipment in relation to film production and produce moving image artworks
  • develop technical competence in the use of film-making techniques
  • evaluate the effectiveness of their own practice

Post 16 Study

A Level Moving Image Arts

Moving Image Arts is a very successful department with a consistent 100% A* – C in AS and A2 Levels for the last 5 years.

The students study key film makers, genres and film making techniques before creating their own short films.

As the course is vocational, the students must follow professional practice throughout, undertaking responsibility for all pre-production, production and post production processes. They also have an online end of year exam.
